CYA U16: Kate Thurman
The Chicago Young Americans are proud to announce that veteran forward, Kate Thurman has committed to The University of Connecticut for the 2019/20 year. “Nothing makes me more excited then seeing a player whose been with us since she was a first year U12 getting a college committment,” said Cimba. “Thurm has been one of those players who has helped to build the CYA legacy while contributing to the success of the program both on and off the ice. Watching her skill, character and overall work ethic develop over the years has been a lot of fun. She represents the complete CYA package and I know that’s a big part of what Coach Mack at UConn loves about her.” Kate had a few offers and made her decision based on what she knows fit her both on the ice and in the classroom.
In reflecting on her experience with CYA, Kate has said, “CYA has helped me to grow not only as a hockey player but as a person. Through the program I was able to learn more about myself and my ability to play college hockey, I owe so much to my coaches and teammates that I've had over the years. But even more important, I need to give a big thank you to my parents. The decision to play at CYA was a family commitment. Driving 2 1/2 hours each way was a big sacrifice and I can't thank them enough for supporting and believing in me through it all.”
Kate is being called on this year to help lead CYA’s U16 team to a State Championship and a trip to Nationals. While she has 3 years left at CYA, she plans to spend every minute focusing on giving her all to her team and the club, while getting herself ready to step in at UConn in 2019. We are all so excited for you Kate.
Way to go Thurm!!
